I live in South Africa, the most southern country in Africa.
It is a big country….five times the size of Great Britain and about as large as Holland, Belgium, Italy, France and West Germany put together. It covers a total land area of 1220430 sq. kilometres. Few countries on earth can rival the beauty and grandeur of the South African landscape.

South Africa is a land of diversity. It is a kaleidoscope of race, language, creed, colour and culture. The diversity is also in the nature of the land…in it's geological formations and regional climate, its range after range of mountains, its plains, deep forests, rich farmlands, bushveld scrub and sunburnt deserts and in the idyllic coastal towns where lazy rivers spill into shimmering lagoons. Each of the many different parts supports its own distinctive plant and animal life. Truly a whole world in one country.

South Africa consists of 9 provinces, each with it's own prime minister and governing body. There are 11 official languages!

Before we moved to Stellenbosch at the end of 2000, I lived in a smallish town, Newcastle, for 18 years. It is a pretty town with an abundancy of trees and shrubs and is nestled between the northern parts of the Drakensberg mountains in the province of Kwa Zulu Natal. Another breathtaking part of this province is the Midland Meander, which consists of several routes through beautiful scenery and a large variety of artist workshops, interesting places and B&B's.

To me, however, the most beautiful province is the Western Province with it's winelands, mountains and breathtaking coastline. Cape Town with the famous Table mountain and cable car, Stellenbosch with its' outstanding university and the beautiful coastal town Hermanus, which is well known for its' whales, are some of my favourite places. Another beautiful route to travel is the Garden Route with it's picturesqe towns and coastline. And then there is also Port Alfred, the small historic coastal town where we have a holiday place on the Royal Alfred Marina.

When in the Western Cape, you might want to make use of a good shuttle service to transport you around to the many tourist attractions in the area. Be sure to contact amaKombiKombi to provide in all your transport needs or to help you plan a superb holiday.

South Africa is well known for it's variety of wildlife and has many gameparks spread across the country. The most famous park is the Kruger National Park which hosts hundreds of wild animal and bird species.

South Africa is a paradise for tourists. If you should ever want to visit South Africa, please feel free to contact me for advice and help on planning your trip.
